Short film based on Cantos XXVII-XXXIII at the end of Dante's Purgatorio, in which Dante makes the summit and undergoes final purification rites before ascending to heaven. Made for "Purgatorio Screening" In which nine filmmakers were tasked to make a film based on each of the nine terraces of Mt. Purgatory. We drew randomly from a hat and had 7 weeks to complete our films. The program premiered at The Eastwood in LA on 2026/07/30, and will likely be screened again at in NYC in early 2027.
Decided to go pretty faithful for the text with this one, as there was so much to work with and it seemed like a tough section to boil down. Tried to capture the psychedelic, scary and mystical aspects of the passage.
